Description
Penclogwynau is a beautifully restored, detached 18th-century holiday cottage set in its own private, enclosed grounds on the lower slopes of Cadair Idris, just 1.5 miles from the historic market town of Dolgellau. Surrounded by spectacular mountain views, rolling fields, and peaceful woodlands, it offers a perfect retreat for those seeking tranquillity, comfort, and a deep connection to nature in the heart of Snowdonia National Park.
Blending rustic charm with modern convenience, the cottage features underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, a large inglenook fireplace with a log-burning stove, and many original details, including exposed beams and rafters. The open-plan living space includes a cosy lounge, a fully equipped country-style kitchen with a double Belfast sink, and a spacious dining area that opens onto a large patio through French doors—ideal for enjoying the stunning surroundings. A separate utility room and a luxurious wet room with a rain shower add to the practicality and comfort of the home.
Upstairs, the cottage has two characterful bedrooms with exposed beams and sweeping views of the surrounding hills and mountains. The master bedroom includes a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom, while the second bedroom can be arranged as a king or twin room. A second bathroom with a deep slipper bath and skylight completes the upstairs space, offering a relaxing spot to unwind.
The garden is a true highlight, with a multi-level lawn, a gentle stream, mature trees, and a choice of seating areas including a large picnic table, a bistro set, and an Indian firepit and grill. Whether you're enjoying a summer BBQ or stargazing under a clear night sky, the setting is peaceful and enchanting.
Penclogwynau is more than just a place to stay—it's a serene and scenic escape where you can slow down, explore Snowdonia’s natural beauty, and enjoy the simple pleasures of countryside living. Although Penclogwynau allows up to 2 dogs during your stay, they are not allowed upstairs.
There is use of an EV Car Charger at the property.
Please note that the stairs inside the property are steep and narrow.

this is being very picky we loved our stay but these are the things I would recommend. Cushions for the kitchen chairs they are very hard. Better organisation of the kitchen draws it looks like it is all just thrown in needs dividers. Get more stuff of the work tops very little space to cook in. Downstairs shower is very good but it does not feel clean in there although I am sure someone would have scrubbed it. Having said all that I would definitely go back at a cheaper time of year.

It is a shame that such a beautiful cottage that has obviously had a lot of money and care spent on it is let down by the cleanliness.
The shower room is black with mould. We had a go at shifting some of it to make it useable - but this needs attention. Kitchen is nicely fitted out but the doors are grubby and needed washing down and the inside of the cupboards all need cleaning. The windows were cleaned from the outside after a storm whilst we were there, which was great. However, if you open the windows and doors the frames are all black with dirt. We had a go at cleaning these too. The bathroom basins plug holes were full of black gunk that we scrubbed away. The kettle needed cleaning as it was all black and grubby and a little offputting to use. Not so important, but still a shame - the bag of dried up cement in the garden, the rusty disused old gate and what once was a nicely planted garden to the left of the driveway has been left to become overgrown and the pretty plants to die. A farm building does not need to be spotless but it should be hygienic. |
