Description
Y Bwthyn is a beautifully refurnished characterful cottage which is perfect for a couples or family getaway.
This pet-friendly cottage is a traditional Welsh stone cottage located in the pretty village of Talgarreg, only a short drive away from the stunning Cardigan Bay coastline. Y Bwthyn is famous for the fact renowned Welsh poet Dewi Emrys once lived there during the Second World War. Dewi Emrys won the very coveted National Eisteddfod ’Chair’ four times for his work.
Y Bwthyn has been recently renovated and the interior is cosy and characterful, with original features such as exposed stonework and beams while the beautiful log burner will keep guests warm even in the coldest winter months.
The kitchen/dining room is well-equipped with all the modern amenities - it includes a dishwasher, washing machine and also a coffee pod machine.
Upstairs can be found the two characterful bedrooms. This first is a beautifully decorated double in a traditional cottage-style with sloping ceilings and wood-panelled walls. It has a handy en-suite toilet with wash basin.
The twin room is set up for children with 2.5ft single beds. Both bedrooms have their own TV and for families with infants, there is a travel cot, highchair and retractable stair gates available.
Outside, the enclosed garden looks out onto fields beyond and the raised patio is the ideal spot to enjoy the views with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Although, with the welcoming village pub right opposite you will probably want to spend some time there too! There is a BBQ for guest use during the summer months.
Y Bwthyn has oil central heating and all electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. Initial fuel for multi-fuel burner is also included along with a welcome pack and doggy extras. Parking is on the road in front of the cottage and is free of charge. No smoking/vaping permitted inside.
Away from Y Bwthyn, the surrounding area has much to offer. The pretty seaside town of New Quay, with its houses clinging to the rocks, is charming – there is a fine selection of independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, and also the Marine Wildlife Centre. Guests can take a boat trip to spot dolphins and seals which children and adults alike will thoroughly enjoy.
There are also many sandy beaches to explore in the area - New Quay has no less than four with many being dog friendly all year round. Nearby, lovely Llangrannog and Tresaith have pubs and restaurants overlooking the beach, so whatever the weather you can enjoy a meal and soak up the views.
The county town of Cardigan and the university town of Aberystwyth are definitely worth a visit, both with castles and the latter with a pier, promenade and electric cliff railway. Make sure you visit the colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron too. West Wales is a haven for walkers, cyclists and those who enjoy any kind of outdoor pursuit. The local Parkrun is just a short drive away at the National Trust owned Llanerchaeron, as is the internationally known Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Centre and the West Wales Karting Centre. If you are after serious mountain biking, you can take to the muddy tracks at Nant-yr-Arian, Aberystwyth or the Brechfa Forest.
