Tucked away behind secure gates in a peaceful woodland setting, and one of just two cottages, Alpine Cottage enjoys an enviable position on the banks of the River Wye, with exceptional, uninterrupted water views from every room.
Beautifully renovated and brand new to Finest Retreats for 2026, the cottage dates back to the early 1800s. Once two humble workers’ cottages and later a Victorian tearoom for visitors arriving by boat at nearby Alpine Wharf, it has since evolved into an elegant retreat designed for modern living.
Inside, each room has been carefully designed to make the most of the river views. The kitchen-diner, snug, and all three bedrooms overlook the water, creating a seamless connection to the natural surroundings.
The cottage comfortably sleeps six guests across three beautifully appointed bedrooms: a ground-floor double room with en-suite shower, a spacious master king upstairs, and a twin room ideal for family or friends. A stylish family bathroom completes the space, featuring a freestanding bath and separate shower.
With direct river access and a private mooring, guests can enjoy kayaking, wild swimming, or fishing along this celebrated stretch of the Wye (rod licence required). Two sit-on kayaks and life vests are available free for use, offering a unique way to explore the river at your leisure.
Scenic walking trails begin right from the doorstep, while excellent country pubs are just a short distance away. Families can appreciate the easy access to local attractions including boat trips, mini golf, a butterfly zoo, amusement parks, and Go Ape. Just a three-minute walk brings you to the historic hand ferry crossing, operating from spring through autumn.
Wi-Fi throughout the house and garden also makes it ideal for those looking to work remotely. Pet friendly with up to two small-well behaved dogs welcome at £50 each. Parking with EV Charger available, 7m cable required.

The cottage was beautiful, I’m so pleased the owners provided directions because it was a little tricky to find just with sat nav, when we arrived we felt super welcome, the owners came to greet us and had left us some little welcome Easter treats whsee more
The cottage was beautiful, I’m so pleased the owners provided directions because it was a little tricky to find just with sat nav, when we arrived we felt super welcome, the owners came to greet us and had left us some little welcome Easter treats which were a lovely touch! The property has absolutely everything you could think of and real luxury, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the location couldn’t have been better right on the river, gorgeous walks with our dogs and pubs and restaurants local! It’s one of the nicest places we have stayed in the UK, so beautiful. We will definitely be returning.

I really can’t say anything I didn’t like! It was all great to be honest, just be prepared for the narrow roads but when you’re there you won’t want to leave!
