Description
Mumbles Cottage offers a relaxed base in the centre of Whitby. Set over three floors, it combines practical living spaces with a calm atmosphere, making it an easy place to settle into during your stay.
The living room sits at the front of the house, where a bay window brings in natural light. It’s a comfortable spot to put your feet up after exploring the town or the surrounding coastline. The kitchen and dining area form the heart of the home, giving you the space to cook, eat, and spend time together without feeling crowded.
Upstairs, the bedrooms are arranged across two floors, giving guests a sense of space and privacy. The main bedroom features a king-size four-poster bed, while the second is set up as a twin. The top-floor bedroom, with its sloped ceilings and skylights, offers a quieter retreat. A family bathroom and an additional WC on the ground floor mean getting ready for the day is straightforward.
Outside, a south-facing patio provides a sunny spot to enjoy some fresh air, tucked away from the bustle of the town. The property also benefits from parking for two vehicles, accessed by a narrow lane.
For larger groups, the cottage can be booked alongside the neighbouring Tenby Cottage, allowing up to 12 guests to stay close together.
Whitby is a historic seaside town on the North Yorkshire coast, known for its striking cliffside views, sandy beaches, and atmospheric harbour. At its heart stands Whitby Abbey, the centuries-old ruins that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and the famous 199 steps leading down into the old town’s narrow streets, independent shops, and traditional fish and chip restaurants. The town blends maritime heritage with a creative, slightly quirky character, hosting festivals throughout the year and offering easy access to the North York Moors. It’s a place where coastal scenery, local history, and a relaxed pace of life come together.

The house itself is extremely comfortable with everything you need and all the furnishings and decorations are of a high standard. The sun-trap patio out front is perfect for both a morning coffee and an evening drink. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area. Just take care when parking as the access lane is very narrow. |

We had a fantastic week at Mumbles Cottage. The house is spacious enough for 6, and beautifully presented. The kitchen was well equipped, bedrooms a good size, and lounge very comfortable with smart TV. Very useful having the extra toilet downstairs. Nice towels, and the addition of soaps and cleaning products was appreciated.
We enjoyed sitting in the front garden which had sunshine for a lot of the day! It's a 2 min walk from the shops/cafes of Skinner Street and 5 mins walk to the harbour area and beach. Nice quiet area and kids were safe playing out on the street. Just beware of the very narrow streets to access the driveway - I struggled in my SUV size car. It is doable just quite tight! It was an easy check in process with plenty of information sent in the week before our stay. |

Only a few minor things - the double bed in the top bedroom was quite uncomfortable, could benefit from a mattress topper perhaps. Better kitchen knives would help (only serrated ones provided, no proper chopping knives). And a bigger clothes horse wsee more

Better kitchen knives would help (only serrated ones provided, no proper chopping knives). And a bigger clothes horse would have been useful due to washing beach towels etc.
